netvibes

I found setting up netvibes to be fairly straightforward; page layout was fairly intuitive. I wish the page design was a bit more customizable but then again my guess is that I might not take advantage of this if it was. I could not get the gmail app to work but this seemed to be on the mail server end. Each time I tried to get this to work I got an email concerned about unauthorized access to my account from France. I experienced this problem with other links as well. I found that the help feature was useful but wish that simple help could have been provided with dialog boxes rather than having to go to a separate web page.

As far as setting up netvibes as a homepage, I have mixed feelings. The volume of information in the feeds that I have set up seems both enticing and discouraging. I could see myself spending all day reading through feeds and going to links. Then again the sheer number might be discouraging, so much information, so little time, so many people doing interesting and creative things. What am I doing?

I am not sure that netvibes would be appealing to my students. They are used to more visual content and the feeds are a bit bland. Also I think that they would be frustrated as I was when trying to set up some links.

One item that I found that was of interest to me was a link on the importance of teaching financial literacy. This is an important part of our curriculum at the FUTURE Program
