Currently, I work as the program coordinator for the FUTURE Program at the University of Tennessee. FUTURE is a post secondary program for adults with intellectual and developmental disabilities. My interest in educational technology is twofold. First, technology can provide a very powerful instructional tool for people with I/DD. Additionally as are moving toward,or perhaps we have arrived at, a time in which education and work are predominantly technology based. However many students with I/DD lag well behind their peers in the understanding of and use of computers and other smart technology. Education that both utilizes technology and teaches the use of technology is a way to address skill deficits and prepare people for employment.
Some other information about me. I earned my master’s degree
from the University of North Carolina at Chapel Hill and received
further graduate-level education from North Carolina State University
and the University of North Texas. My areas of areas of study and professional
interest include learning, special education, and behavior analysis. I have more than twenty years of experience in treatment and educational
settings, providing cognitive/behavior therapy for adolescents and
community based services for children and adults with developmental
disabilities.I am currently pursuing an Eds degree in Educational Technology.
